Why most SEO roadmaps fail in month two

Most SEO roadmaps read well in the kickoff deck and fall apart by month two. Not because the strategy is wrong — usually the keyword research and content plan are sound — but because the sequencing ignores how search engines actually build trust in a new (or newly reorganized) site.

Start with the pages that already have equity

Before writing a single new article, we audit every page currently earning any organic traffic or backlinks, even the underperforming ones. Refreshing an existing page with real search intent behind it almost always outpaces publishing something brand new, because the domain has already earned some baseline trust on that topic.

Fix technical debt before scaling content volume

Publishing forty articles onto a site with crawl budget issues, broken internal linking, or slow Core Web Vitals is spending content budget to compensate for a technical problem money can't fix. We resolve indexation and site health issues in the first two weeks, in parallel with content planning, never after.

Sequence by intent, not by volume

High-volume, top-of-funnel keywords feel exciting in a keyword tool but rarely convert early, and they take the longest to rank. We prioritize bottom-of-funnel, high-intent pages first, both because they convert faster and because early wins keep stakeholders bought into the roadmap during the months before the compounding effect kicks in.

Report leading indicators, not just rankings

Rankings lag. If the only metric in your monthly report is position tracking, you won't know whether month three is working until month five. We report impressions, click-through rate, and indexation status weekly, so we can course-correct long before a ranking report would show a problem.
